got blog? I started a new blog, and I'm linking to it for two reasons:
1. If any of you are interested, go read. If not, please ignore. You won't hurt my feelings any ;) 2. Because I want google to link to it, and google basically follows links on the web, so something google knows about has to link to my blog for google to find it.
So here it is: www.longlivegeeks.com

I think Cyril and I are going to get a Hi-Def LCD TV this year for Christmas. I usually don't do the black-Friday thing, but we've been looking at adds (bfads.net), and it appears a couple of stores are going to have really good deals, so we might actually join the frenzy this year. My only requirement is that we figure out which TV we want before black Friday. I don't want to be trying to make a decision in all the chaos.
Cyril and I are both electronics snobs (I would've said just me, but, that was before I saw him drooling over a $3k TV last month ;) ), so the trick for us is to find one which looks 95% as good as the pricey TVs, for 75% of the price. We might just make it :)

Movies and Christmas I saw Eragon yesterday. I liked it :) It was rather predictable, but then I'd read the book so, it was going to be predictable anyways. The only thing that bugged me is that some of the transitions were a little rough. At times it felt like watching a TV show on DVD, where they've removed the commercials, but not quit covered up the spots where they used to be.
One of the previews was for a new TMNT movie. I was like "Oh no, they didn't.". I used to love the cartoons, back when they were new and goofy :) The new anime style TMNT doesn't appeal to me nearly as much. But the possible worst thing the turtles ever did was the movies. Okay, the first one was pretty good (except that they used a different story as to how the turtles has been created than the one in the cartoons), but the second and third ones were just bad. Really bad. Must they mar the turtle name again with one more movie?
6 more days til Christmas. It can't get here soon enough for me :) I want my presents! Now! Wii! Wii! Wii! Wii! Mine! Now! :)
*sighs* I guess I just gotta wait.

It's a bird! It's a plane! No it's... As I was leaving the house this morning I looked up and there was a hot air balloon flying over Greensburg! It was cool :)
Unfortunatly my arrival at work has convinced me that I'm not in the twilight zone. Darn ;)

[Link] | We saw Gin Blossoms last night :) They played a free concert in Station Square in Pittsburgh. They can still rock, it was cool :)
Afterwards a couple of the band members were signing stuff. I got them to sign the t-shirt Cyril bought for me. I mentioned that I'd seen them a long time ago in Memphis. I don't know if the guy remembered that concert, but, he said they'd just been in Memphis recording their latest album. I had forgotten they used to record down there. Then the guy said they have great ribs, and I was like, yeah, miss the ribs! and we left.

[Link] | I watched the premier of Skating with Celebrities last night. I was hysterical! That's the funniest TV I've seen in a long time :)
They did do one thing that I think is a little weird. Two of the celebrities obviously have skating experience. And they're being open about it, but against people who have almost never skated, that doesn't seem too fair. It's still a blast to watch though.

The Things We Do for Love Cyril and I know much of the same 80s music. He typically knows more artists than me, I just know the songs. Well, a song came on the radio while we were in the car, I start singing along, I couldn't tell you who sings it, but I knew all the words. He was like: I have never heard this before in my life. When we get home, I looked it up on iTunes, "The Things We Do for Love", by 10cc. Which explains how I know the song, Mom played 10cc around the house when I was a kid. Cyril has still never heard of em :)

[Link] | Guess what??? Cyril and I have finally been to a ren faire! :) The Greater Pittsburgh Renaissance Fest. It was a lot of fun :) We saw a joust, and some comic duelest, and some other shows. Cyril tried unsuccessfully to throw knives at a wall. I wasn't much better with the midevil darts. Of course a lot of people were in costume. The funny thing to me is lots of em looked like they walked off the set of LoTR, as Hobbit extras. I dunno if Ren clothes always looked that way, or that's just the new trend, but it was funny :) Maybe next year we'll get Cyril into a tunic! ;)
Do I really haaaave to teach class this morning??? :) Kor

[Link] | My best friend from Tulane is safe! He emailed another friend of ours and asked that friend to email me and let me know, as he couldn't remember my non-Tulane email addy. Yay!!! I knew there was a good chance he had left, and I am very happy to know for sure.
In other good news, Cyril and I went bowling this evening and I finally broke a hundred. For all 3 games! :) I was giving my sweetheart some competition for a change :) It's only the 5th or 6th time we've been bowling, and we've been told that we're doing good.

[Link] | I hope everyone will forgive me if I talk about something happy for a little while.
We got a dishwaher! Saturday a week ago, Cyril and I went on a bunch of errands and one of them was to Best Buy where we got one of these! Isn't it cute? It's sitting on top of one of the sinks in the kitchen. We have a double sink, and normally I would use one of them for a dish rack, but instead I put one of those vinal cutting boards over it, and the dishwasher on top. That a way it drains in the sink directly below, and I don't have to move it around or anything when I want to use it. It's way nicer than having to handwash dishes :) I don't mind that it's so small. We don't use tons of dishes, and I'd rather run small runs a few times a week than a big one once a week. It's not good for dirty dishes to sit around forever.
I think the chicken thing I've got on the stove is almost done. Byeeeeee! :) Kor

[Link] | I got a mini-fridge for my office. One of the kind that has the tiny freezer in one corner. I filled the ice cube try yesterday and this morning found out that half the cubes had frozen. It was the strangest thing, some were frozen, some were all water. I used the frozen cubes, refilled the tray, and turned the fridge temp down. Hopefully tomorrow (or whenever I go for ice next), I'll have a full try. Not that it makes that much ice either way :)
I start teaching Monday! Today I gotta make notes for my lectures next week.
Cyril's currently at a job interview. Let's all hope they give him big bucks, no wammies! :)

[Link] | We had the Fall Faculty Workshop on campus today. It began with a prayer (SHU is a Catholic uni), and our new chaplin decided to light incence before starting the prayer. Very smokey incence. About 5 minutes into it, the fire alarm went off. Everybody started laughing, we couldn't help it. Someone carried the smoking bowl out of the auditorium, and a little while later the alarm went off and he picked up where he'd left off. During one of the breaks I asked the chaplin if he was going to set off the sprinkler system next time... :) I've never met a priest with a sense of humor before. Nor one with very obvious (and probably expensive) highlights in his hair!

[Link] | I survived new faculty orientation. Everyone by now has probably figured out that I'm terrible with names... which they might as well have known sooner or later :) I'm supposed to get my office computer tomorrow. They had to tear down a wall to make my office, it was two tiny rooms and now it's one office. Wee :)
PA is pretty cool so far. We had some ferocious fog this morning. I drove up the hill (yes Seton Hill is really on a hill) and was like "woah, fog!" :)
